Feed is the largest single cost in animal production, and every ingredient in it is priced by a market that never sits still. A formula that was optimal last month is quietly costing you money today — and the only way to know is to build it again against today's prices.
Re-formulating by hand is slow
By the time a ration has been reworked in a spreadsheet and checked against every limit, the prices that justified it have moved again.
Safety margins cost real money
Formulating a little above target on every nutrient feels prudent. Multiplied by every tonne you produce, it is one of the largest avoidable costs in the mill.
Conventional systems are heavy
Annual fees, servers, seats and a renewal date that is not yours to set — a lot of overhead for a calculation that should belong to you.
Nothing is pre-loaded, and nothing is locked
The nutrients, the ingredients and the values are all yours to define. Where a nutrient can be worked out from the others, you write that once and let the software keep it — for the whole database, or for a single ingredient that behaves differently. And when you would rather not type a raw material in at all, nine published feed tables are already in the software to take it from.
Every nutrient you work with, on your terms
Create a nutrient, name it, give it a unit, choose how many decimals it carries and put it in the group you want it in. Delete one you never use — including the ones that came with the program. There is no supplied catalogue to work around.
- Search by name or by number. Every nutrient carries a number you can type, and it means the same thing on screen and on the printed report.
- Your own categories, in your own order. Rename them, reorder them, and the ingredient list sorts the way you arranged them.
- In and out as a spreadsheet. Bring the whole table in, edit it in bulk, bring it back. An import adds and updates; it never deletes.
- Several databases side by side. One per species, per customer or per supplier, each completely independent of the others.

Write the equation once, for one ingredient or for all of them
Some nutrients are not measured, they are worked out. Write that relationship once and the software keeps the value in step — and where a single raw material follows a different rule, that one ingredient can carry its own.
- Across the whole database. One rule applies to every ingredient, so a nutrient you never measure is still right on all of them.
- Or for a single ingredient. Press ƒx on any nutrient while editing one raw material and give that ingredient its own equation — its own coefficient, not the shared one. The individual rule wins.
- Real arithmetic. Brackets, powers and remainders, and functions like square root, round, minimum, maximum and clamp — built by pressing buttons, so there is nothing to mistype.
- The result is a stored value. Every report, every comparison and the formulation itself read it exactly like a figure you typed by hand.

Nine published tables, already inside the software
Your database still starts empty — but you no longer have to type it in from a book open on the desk. FeedForté carries the reference tables themselves: 1,178 raw materials across nine published works, searchable by name, showing every figure the book prints for that material. Look one up, take across the rows you want, and it becomes an ingredient in your own database.
- Everything the book publishes, not just what we have a column for. Sections in the book's own words and order, with the number of samples and the standard deviation wherever that book prints them.
- You choose what comes across, row by row. Tick the rows you want and say which of your nutrients each one feeds. A row you have no nutrient for can create one on the spot, so a table's own measures are not lost.
- The book's numbers, as the book states them. Units are converted where a table prints g/kg or MJ; the basis is not silently changed. It tells you whether the figures are as-fed or dry matter and asks which you want before writing anything.
- It only ever adds. An import creates a new ingredient — nothing you already have is altered — and it arrives with no price, so a reference figure can never quietly walk into a costing.

You set the limits. It finds the cheapest way to hit them
Choose your ingredients, enter a minimum and a maximum for every nutrient that matters, and press one button. FeedForté returns the lowest-cost combination that satisfies every one of them — and tells you which limits are holding the price up.
- Any nutrient you define. Add your own nutrients, units, categories and calculations. Nothing is hard-coded to one species.
- Ratio constraints between any two nutrients. Hold one nutrient at a set proportion of another — amino acids against lysine, calcium against phosphorus, or any pair you define. Minimum ratios are enforced as the ration is built.
- Limits on ingredients and whole categories. Cap an ingredient, fix it at an exact inclusion, exclude it, or hold a whole category within a band.
- As-fed or dry-matter basis. Switch the whole formula between the two and every limit is carried across with it.
- When it cannot be done, it says why. Impossible combinations are named precisely, with the exact change that would make the formula solvable.

No hidden ceilings
Nothing is capped behind your back. A blank maximum means exactly that, so the result you get is the result your limits actually describe.

Most programs will show you a dry-matter figure. FeedForté formulates on it — every minimum and maximum enforced as a dry-matter target while the ration is being built, landing exactly on it whatever the final dry matter turns out to be.

- It is a target, not a conversion. A dry-matter minimum is enforced while the ration is being built. Nothing is calculated on an as-fed basis and converted afterwards, which is where the drift creeps in.
- One switch, the whole formula. Every minimum and maximum you have already entered carries across with it. There is no re-typing, and no per-value tagging to keep straight.
- Both bases stay readable. Flip back and the same limits appear as their as-fed equivalents, so a mill hand and a nutritionist can read the same ration in the units each of them thinks in.
- It follows through to the paperwork. The daily intake column and the printed technical report both carry the basis, and the report says on its face which one the limits were set on.
Ruminant and aquaculture specifications are written on a dry-matter basis, and moisture in the raw materials moves week to week. A program that only displays dry matter leaves you converting by hand and re-entering limits every time the basis changes — which is both slow and exactly where a decimal goes missing.
The number is not the answer. Knowing why is

Two questions every formulator gets asked, answered exactly
"Take two rupees off the bag." "What would one more point of lysine cost me?" Most programs leave you to work those out by hand, one trial formula at a time. These two tools answer them by rebuilding the whole ration — as many times as it takes — and reporting what actually happened.
Cost Optimize: name the saving, get the way to it
Type the amount you want off the bag and press one button. It works out the smallest change that delivers exactly that — and if it cannot be done, it says so and tells you the most this formula can actually give.
- It starts from an honest premise. The formula on screen is already the cheapest one your limits allow. So a saving can only come from something you let change — and this names exactly what, and by how little.
- Ranked by how far each disturbs the ration. Buy an ingredient cheaper and nothing moves at all. Widen an ingredient or category limit and every nutrient target is still met. Only at the end does it suggest moving the specification — and then it shows a before-and-after on every nutrient.
- Every figure is a real rebuild. Nothing is projected from a rule of thumb, and two savings are never assumed to add up — so the number you are shown is the number you will get.
- Nothing happens until you say so. Every route is a proposal. You apply the one you choose, or none of them.

Scenario Analysis: what one step of any nutrient really costs
Pick a nutrient, choose a step, and see the cost per bag both ways before you commit to anything. It is the number to bring to the argument about a specification.
- The whole ration is rebuilt, twice. The nutrient is held at exactly your value plus one step, then minus one step, and each is solved from scratch. These are outcomes, not gradients.
- The two directions rarely match, and that matters. Tightening can cost far more than loosening saves. A single rate of change would hide that completely — which is precisely where money is left on the table.
- It admits when a step is impossible. If the other limits and ratios cannot accommodate it, you are told that instead of being handed a number that quietly ignored one of them.
- Apply is a separate, deliberate step. Look at as many scenarios as you like — your formula is untouched until you press it.

Sensitivity. After every build, what each limit that is holding the price is adding per tonne, ranked — and what easing one would actually be worth.
You are looking at the tip of the iceberg. The software is far larger than one page can show. Behind each of these screens sit settings, options and tools that only appear when the work calls for them, and a great deal of what it does day to day cannot be photographed at all. Treat this as an introduction, not an inventory. To see the rest, ask for a demonstration and put one of your own rations through it.
Not a poultry program with other species bolted on
FeedForté has no built-in idea of what animal you are feeding. You create the nutrients, the units, the categories and the calculations you work with — so the same tool formulates a broiler starter, a lactating dairy ration and a shrimp feed without compromise.

Nothing is pre-loaded, and that is deliberate — there is no supplied catalogue to unlearn and no assumption of ours buried in your ration. You build the database from your own analyses and your own prices, or import it from a spreadsheet, which is the fast route in and the file most operations already keep. Poultry is where FeedForté was built and where it is most deeply proven; the calculation itself has no concept of species at all.
It runs the rest of the mill too
Formulation is where it starts. Everything downstream of the formula — stock, purchasing, laboratory results, the sheet the mixer operator holds — is in the same program, working from the same numbers.
Stock and forecasting
Track what you hold across warehouses, see how many days of cover each ingredient has at your current production, and get the date each one runs out.
Purchasing and orders
Build a purchase order from what is actually short, with your vendor, your quantities and your rates, and print it properly. Receiving it updates stock.
Laboratory database
Record every lab sample against an ingredient and see the average, range, standard deviation and variation — then formulate on your measured values instead of a book table.
Batch mixing tickets
Turn the formula into the weighing sheet for one batch: mixing order, weight per ingredient, a running total and space to record what was actually weighed.
Premixes as ingredients
Build a premix from its parts and save it as a single ingredient with its full nutrient profile and calculated cost, ready to use in any formula.
Several plants, one program
Keep each plant's ingredients, prices, formulas and stock completely separate, and move an ingredient between them when you need to.
What it will do for you
Written as the questions a formulator asks, not as a specification. If you want to know how any of it behaves on your own rations, ask for a demonstration and watch it.
Building the ration
- One press and you have the cheapest ration that meets every limit you set.
- Every nutrient is yours to bound, and every ingredient is yours to control.
- Hold two nutrients in proportion — whichever pair your specification is written around.
- Keep whole families of ingredients inside the share of the formula you want them at.
- Work as fed or on dry matter, and switch the whole formula between them.
- No hidden ceilings. A blank maximum genuinely means unrestricted — nothing is capped behind your back.
- Try a quoted price against the formula before you commit to buying at it.
- Pin an ingredient at an exact inclusion, or shut it out of a formula entirely.
- Electrolyte balance and the cation–anion difference, computed from the salts themselves.
- As many formulas as you run, filed in folders you name.
- Choose what each formula shows — only the ingredients and nutrients that formula uses.
- Daily intake per bird beside every nutrient, once you enter the feed intake.
When a ration will not come together
- It tells you which of your limits is the problem, by name, instead of only that it failed.
- It offers a correction you can accept and rebuild — even when no single limit is at fault on its own.
- Your previous result stays on screen while you sort it out.
Knowing what it costs you
- Which limits are actually holding the price up, ranked by what each is costing you.
- What one step of any nutrient is worth, in both directions, before you commit to it.
- Name a saving per bag and it finds the way to it — or tells you honestly there isn't one.
- What an unused ingredient would have to cost to earn a place — your number for the negotiation.
- How much room each limit has before your ration changes.
- A pellet-quality reading for the mix you just built, from your own factor table.
Your own data
- Work with any nutrient you use. Create it and it behaves exactly like the ones supplied.
- Have a nutrient worked out for you from the others, across the database or for one ingredient on its own.
- Formulate on your own laboratory results rather than a book table, with the statistics behind them.
- Look a raw material up in nine published tables — 1,178 of them — and take the rows you choose into your own database.
- Keep separate databases side by side — a species, a customer or a supplier in each.
- Bring your data in and take it out as ordinary spreadsheets.
- Edit one nutrient across every ingredient from a single list, without opening each one.
- Your own ingredient categories, renamed and reordered as you want them sorted.
- Send chosen ingredients to another plant, prices and all, without touching what is there.

Paperwork your client will take seriously
Every report carries your plant name, your name and your title, and prints on your own letterhead or ours. Choose exactly which sections appear, preview it inside the program, then print it or save it as a PDF.
- A technical report for you and a plain client summary for the customer, from the same formula.
- Pick the sections. Ingredients, nutrient profile, amino acids, price breakdown, category split, remarks — each one optional.
- A compact mode that fits a long report onto far fewer pages.

A formulation program sees every ingredient price you pay and every ration you have ever built. FeedForté is designed so that information has nowhere to go.
You formulate offline
No server and no account. Once your key has been checked at the moment you plug it in, you build rations all day with the connection off entirely.
Nothing of yours is uploaded
Your prices, ingredients and formulas are written to your own machine and stay there. The one thing that ever leaves is the serial number of your USB key, to ask whether it is still valid. No ration, no price and no ingredient goes with it.
The licence is a key you hold
It arrives as a USB key. Plug it into the computer you want to work on and FeedForté runs — bought once, no renewal, and no account you can be locked out of.
Your data stays readable
Ingredients, prices, formulas and archived rations all export to CSV files that open in any spreadsheet. Nothing you enter is locked in a format only we can read.
How the licence actually reaches you
Earlier versions were activated against one specific computer, which meant a new licence file every time a machine was replaced. That is gone. The current version ships the licence on a USB key — so what you buy is a physical object you keep, not a permission somebody else has to keep granting you.
1 · The key comes to you
You install FeedForté from the file I send, and the licence arrives separately as a USB key. Nothing to activate, register, unlock or type in.
2 · Plug it in and work
The key stays in the computer while you formulate. On the moment you plug it in it is checked once — that it is a key still in good standing — and after that you work with the connection off. Nothing to install online, nothing to register, nothing to type.
3 · It moves with you
New laptop, a spare machine in the mill office, a client visit — unplug the key, take it with you, plug it in there. Nothing to re-issue and nobody to ask.
One key runs one formulation desk at a time. Your data does not live on the key — that stays in a folder on the computer and travels as exported files.
The one thing to know before you buy: that check needs a connection at the moment you plug the key in, and pulling the key out signs you back out. So a computer that can reach the internet when you sit down works normally all day offline — but one that can never reach it at all is not what this is built for. If that describes your mill office, say so when you enquire rather than finding out afterwards.
I did not set out to write software. I set out to prove that precision is not a privilege — that any mill, anywhere, can formulate with the confidence of the biggest operations and own every number it runs on. FeedForté was built ration by ration, in a working mill, to make that standard.

The hard questions
Including the ones with an answer you may not like. You would find them out eventually; better now, from me.
Why is there no price on this page?
Because FeedForté is sold into countries with very different purchasing power, and it is priced by region. Publishing one figure would mean overcharging some buyers and undercharging others.
What that does not mean is that the price depends on you. The figure for your region is set in advance and is the same for every buyer in it — your company's size, your tonnage and what you pay today do not change the number quoted. Neither does the shape of it: one payment, a perpetual licence on a USB key you keep, and no subscription, per-seat renewal, per-tonne charge, hosting cost or locked modules. Only the number changes.
Write with roughly where you are and what you produce, and you get the figure in reply. No form, and no discovery call you have to sit through first.
Will it give the same answer as the system I use today?
On the same ingredients, the same values, the same limits and the same prices, the cost will match. The mix may not always — when two combinations cost exactly the same, more than one answer is genuinely least-cost, and two correct systems can each return a different one.
A differing cost is the thing worth investigating, and it nearly always means one system is quietly enforcing something the other is not. FeedForté applies no automatic ceiling of its own, so a blank maximum genuinely means unrestricted, and after every build it shows which limits are holding the price and what each one is costing.
That is not hypothetical. An early disagreement with a commercial system was traced to a cap FeedForté itself was applying behind the scenes — it starved a ration of one energy source and shifted the whole balance. That cap was removed, there are now none at all, and the answers then matched ingredient by ingredient.
How do I know the numbers are right?
Three independent layers. The calculation core is checked against reference implementations built on entirely different foundations. It has been compared on real production rations against an established commercial system, reproducing the result ingredient by ingredient. And the compiled engine that ships is tested against a stored library of worked formulas — ordinary rations, dry-matter targets, category limits, ratios, fixed ingredients and edge cases — and must reproduce every one of them exactly before a build is released.
The test that should actually convince you is your own: enter a ration you already run and compare it line by line. If the cost differs, tell me. The software names which limits are holding the price and what each costs, which is where the difference nearly always turns out to be.
Does it handle my species?
Almost certainly, because it has no concept of species at all. There are no requirement tables, no species models and no fixed nutrient list. You create the nutrients you work with — any name, unit, grouping or precision — and the calculation treats every one of them identically.
So: ruminants on fibre and protein fractions with an enforced dry-matter basis; swine on digestible amino acids against net energy; aquaculture on digestible fractions with a controlling protein-to-energy ratio; pet food on maximums, ratio bands and an energy density from your own equation.
One honest note. Nothing is pre-loaded, so for any species you create your nutrients and import or type your ingredient values. That is real work — usually a first week — and work most professionals do anyway, because local raw materials never match a supplied catalogue.
Why does it not include requirement tables or recommendations?
Because a formulation is a professional decision with real consequences, and it belongs to the person accountable for it. A tool that ships opinions ships them everywhere — including into a country, a breed or a climate where they are wrong. If the software quietly supplied a requirement and you did not notice, you would have signed off on a number you never chose.
FeedForté computes precisely and explains itself completely: what the ration costs, which limits are holding the price, what each one costs, what moving it would do, and why a ration cannot be built. Then it stops. The practical benefit is that the same inputs give the same result every time, with nothing hidden behind it.
The reference library is not an exception to this, and the distinction is worth being exact about. Those nine works publish what a raw material contains — they say nothing about what an animal needs. Nothing is written into your database until you pick the rows yourself, and the target you set against them stays entirely yours.
What happens if you stop supporting it?
A fair question to ask a small vendor, and I would rather answer it before you ask. There is no account that can be closed, no subscription to lapse and no rented server your data sits on. The formulation itself runs on your machine, so nothing about how it builds a ration depends on me being here.
Two dependencies do remain, and I would rather name them than have you discover them. The first is a replacement key if yours is ever lost or fails. The second is the check that runs when the key is plugged in: it asks a service I operate whether that key is still valid, and if that service were switched off and left off, keys would stop being confirmed. It exists so that a stolen key can be stopped — the same mechanism that protects you is the one that has to keep running.
So ask me to put a continuity commitment in writing before you buy, covering replacement keys, continued installation for existing customers, and what happens to that check if I am ever no longer here to run it. It is a reasonable thing to want in writing and I will put it there.
Your data is independent regardless. It lives in files in a folder you chose, and all of it exports to spreadsheet files and self-contained documents you already hold.
If everything is on my computer, what happens when it fails or is stolen?
Your data is not trapped inside the application. Everything exports to self-contained files carrying your ingredient database, price lists, formulas and archived rations. Keep a copy on whatever schedule you already use for your other business records.
Recovering onto a replacement machine means installing FeedForté, plugging in the same USB key, and bringing your exported data back in. There is no re-activation step and nothing to request from me. Ask me to walk you through those exact steps before you buy, so you have seen the recovery rather than been told about it.
To be explicit: there is no automatic backup and no cloud copy. Keeping one is your arrangement to make, not something the software does for you.
What if I replace the computer, or need to work on a second one?
You move the key. The licence lives on the USB key, not on the machine, and never reads its hardware fingerprint — so a new laptop, a rebuilt disk or the spare computer in the mill office all work the same way. Unplug the key, plug it in there, install FeedForté if it is not already on it. No re-activation, no file to request, nothing to wait for.
This is the improved arrangement, and it exists because of the older one. FeedForté was originally activated against one specific computer, so every hardware change meant asking me for a new licence file — free and same-day, but still a dependency on me being reachable on the morning your machine died. The key removes that entirely, which is exactly why it was changed.
The trade is worth stating plainly: the key has to be plugged into whichever computer you are formulating on, and it runs one desk at a time. If two people genuinely need to formulate at once, say so when you enquire and we supply a second key.
What if the USB key is lost, stolen or stops working?
Write to me and I arrange a replacement. Have the terms confirmed in writing with your quotation — what a replacement costs, how quickly it ships to your country, and what happens to the original if it turns up later — so there is nothing to negotiate on the day you actually need it.
Two things soften it in the meantime. Your data is not on the key: your ingredient database, price lists, formulas and archived rations sit in a folder on the computer and export to spreadsheet files, so nothing is lost while a replacement is in transit. And every report you have already produced is a self-contained document you still hold.
Treat the key the way you would treat a company chequebook. It is the licence, and whoever holds it can run the software — with one protection worth knowing about. Because a key is checked each time it is plugged in, a key you report lost or stolen can be stopped from my end, and it will not run for whoever has it. Tell me the moment it goes missing.
How many people can use it, and does it work across several plants?
One key runs one formulation desk at a time, which suits the buyers this was built for: a mill with one formulation desk, or a consulting nutritionist working from a laptop. Install it on as many of your own computers as you like — the key decides which one is working. Within one installation you can hold many separate plants with completely isolated data, which is how a consultant keeps client databases from contaminating each other, and several independent ingredient databases side by side.
What it does not do is give several people simultaneous access to one shared live database over a network. If two desks need to formulate at the same time, say so and we supply the keys you need. But if your requirement is central multi-site governance with administrator-managed accounts, this is a single-desk instrument and a larger platform will fit you better.
Can it send formulas to our batching system or our ERP?
No, and I would rather be clear now than let you discover it later. FeedForté ends at the document: a printed batch mixing ticket giving the mixing sequence, the exact weight for each ingredient, a running total, and blank columns for what was actually weighed and signed off.
That is how most small and mid-sized mills genuinely operate, and the ticket is designed for the operator who holds it. It does not drive automated batching controllers and it does not integrate with ERP systems. If that integration is a requirement, a platform vendor is the right choice for you.
How do I move my existing ingredient data across?
Through spreadsheet files, which is normally the fastest route in. Your ingredients, their nutrient values and their prices all come in together, and an import adds to what is there rather than replacing it — nothing you already entered is lost. It works in both directions, so you can pull the whole database out, edit it in bulk in a spreadsheet, and bring it back.
Most operations already keep their ingredient matrix and price lists in a spreadsheet, and that is the file to start from. If yours is in an unusual layout, send a sample when you enquire and I will tell you what shape it needs to be in.
If you have no such file, you are not left typing from scratch. Nine published feed tables ship inside the software — 1,178 raw materials — so a material can be looked up by name and the rows you want taken across into your own database. You still choose every value that lands, and it arrives with no price attached.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes. Write to me and I will give you a demonstration. There is no form to fill in, no signup, no sales sequence afterwards and no obligation at the end of it.
I would far rather you judged this on a ration you already know the answer to than on a prepared dataset that proves nothing. Send one of your own formulas with your own prices, or bring it to the session, and watch it come out line by line — then compare the cost against what you run today.
Say in your first email which suits you: a live walkthrough where I drive and you ask whatever you want, the same session run on your own ingredient list and prices, or a recorded end-to-end run you can watch in your own time and show to whoever else has to approve the purchase.
Does it work in my currency, my units and my language?
Currency: yes. On first run it asks which currency you work in, or lets you type your own code, and that choice applies everywhere — on screen, in every report and in every exported file. Stock and demand can be viewed and entered in kilograms or in tonnes, and batch and bag weights are yours to set.
Units: nutrient units are free text, so whatever convention your reference uses, you type it and it appears throughout. Be clear about one thing — the unit is a label, not a conversion. Enter every ingredient's value for a given nutrient on the same basis, because the software will not convert between two of them for you.
Language: the software's own screens and reports are in English. Everything you type — ingredient names, formula names, plant details, remarks — appears exactly as you write it.
